TORONTO – Humber River-Black Creek. In the extreme northwest part of Toronto, it is home to 111,593 residents as per Census 2021. The riding is among the few in Toronto where all three main parties hope for a victory.
It has been traditionally a constituency tending either Liberal or NDP. Its subdivisions have been a preference for family-oriented Europeans (and more recently, other like-minded recent immigrants). It has recently been the subject of much public attention because the Toronto Preservation Board deliberated an application to list, and designate, the property and gardens on the grounds formerly housing Saint Basil the Great College as a Heritage site.
The location on 3100 Weston Rd. was/is the site devotees of all racial groups refer to as the Shrine of Mother Mary of Gratitude for what they consider a location of peace and “miracles”. The current MPP, Tom Rakocevic, an NDP member, is regarded as being supportive.
The PC party are presenting their candidate, Paul Ngyen a local community activist, while the OLP has fielded a Trustee of the RDSB, Liban Hassan, as its candidate.
Those who self-identify as Italian still represent the largest single ethnic group, as the chart on this page indicate. They will likely decide the victor.
