Lubinski calls for re-instatement of the International Language Day Program: “It plays a key role”

TORONTO – The decision to cancel the International Language Program (ILP) of the TCDSB, which had been in place for approximately 50 years within the Toronto Catholic District School Board, continues to generate debate.

The program represented an important educational opportunity for thousands of students, supporting language learning, cultural exploration, and the development of a sense of identity and belonging.

In response to the program’s elimination, Trustee Teresa Lubinski has launched a community initiative, inviting parents, guardians, and community members to express their support for the program’s continuation by completing a dedicated online form available via the link here.

Here is the text from Teresa Lubinski accompanying the form. “For about 50 years, this program has supported students in over 40 schools by providing opportunities to learn languages, explore cultures, and build a strong sense of identity and belonging, within the Toronto Catholic District School Board. In one of the most diverse city in the world, this program plays a significant role in student development. It fosters confidence, encourages respect and understanding of others, and expands opportunities for the future. Removing the program would take away a meaningful and valuable part of students’ educational experience, reducing pathways for cultural connection and personal growth The International Language Day Program is essential and should continue within the Toronto Catholic District School Board”.
