An earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.5 – 5.6, was recorded at 14.47 today, March 27. Following three other tremors recorded by the Ingv (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), with an epicenter in the open sea, 10 kilometers deep: the second at 15 of magnitude 4.1; the third, of 15.09, of 2.6, and the fourth of 15.12, of 3.4. The earthquake was felt above all in Puglia, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Lazio and the Marche.

The epicenter was located in the middle of the sea, about 80-90 km from the coasts of Gargano Puglia and the Tremiti Islands and about thirty kilometers from the Croatian island of Lastovo. According to data from the U.S. Geological Survey, the closest Italian city is Vieste, in the Gargano, in the province of Foggia.

There was no report of damages.

“We expect several, so-called, replicas, even if we cannot say how long they will last. There will be several successive shocks that usually occur after the main event”, explained Carlo Doglioni, president of Ingv, who spoke to Rainews 24. “They are completely natural shocks, after a magnitude of 5.6, the sequence now needs to be monitored and that’s what we’re doing”, he added.
