TORONTO – Agree with him or not, Mike Del Grande, Catholic School Board Trustee for Ward 7, is now in Court against the trustees and Staff with whom, until last November, he had been working more or less productively. For reasons which must inevitably emerge in the Court proceedings, that working relationship has turned bitter if not venomous.
As a result, the reputational damage to the Board, Catholic Schools, the Archdiocese and the Minister of Education is incalculable. Pending the outcome, at least two Law firms (Borden Ladner Gervais – BLG – and Rubin Thomlinson) will have to shoulder responsibility for faulty, deliberately bad advice. In our humble opinion, the Law Society of Ontario will be flooded with complaints against both. At the very least neither will ever see a contract with a school board again.
Their advice has poisoned an already turbulent scholastic environment and forcing the hand of the Cardinal as the magisterium (teacher and defender of the faith) in Catholic schools. Some radical LGBTQ+ activists claim that role for themselves, or the abolition of Catholic schools altogether.
Four trustees are primarily responsible for this – De Domenico, Di Pasquale, Li Preti and Rizzo – aided and abetted by Senior Staff and some activist union reps. They thumb their nose at rules and procedures; care nary a darn about the reputations of others; throw demeaning accusations about as if they were less than feathers in the wind; torque the interventions of others as “hate speech” and bigotry, and generally denigrate any validity in the Creed they vowed to uphold and promote.
For his own sanity and protection, Del Grande has had to turn to the Courts to seek procedural, administrative relief. He appears to have knowledgeable Counsel who understand and believe in the Constitutional and Statutory rights and obligations of the Separate Schools system.
The thugs above, and their enablers (“tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are”) respect none of that. It seems the Minister does not either. One can only hope the Court will put them in their place.
