A Celebration of the peoples’ press and media

TORONTO – Good, bad or indifferent our life experiences are replicated by, if not shared with, others who go through the same trials and joys that shape the Canadian demographic landscape.

August 16, the official opening of National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) was a celebratory explosion of culture, colour and testimonials of our collective contributions through the various means of communications: print, radio, TV, digital …

Annually, NEPNCC hosts a booth next to the International Stage at the Canadian National Exhibition to highlight the works of its membership. It is impressive by any standards. You can see from the titles in the background that claims more than seven million people weekly connect with each other via the member organizations. It is most probably an understated number.

Every major language group from Europe, the Greater Middle East, (Asia – the “Far East”, China, the Philippines, Indian sub-Continent etc.), Africa and, of course, Central and South America were represented. The Corriere Canadese, and the Cittadino Canadese from Montreal were among them. Every one of us has a unique perspective worthy of noting and retelling. Everyone of them impacts on the economic and political realities and dynamics that mould our country and inform international trade and political policies.

The burden of ensuring the integration and financial survival of this ethnocultural diversity and its journalistic voices rests on the shoulders of its President Mr. Thomas Saras, the Executive Director, Maria Voutsinas and the Council Directors – all present for the celebration. We apologize if we missed naming all those present.
