The celebration of Italian identity with Minister Lecce

MAPLE – Italian identity under the spotlight on Friday in Maple with the participation of Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce who wanted to wish “a happy new year” by celebrating the end of Italian Heritage Month with his supporters in Maple.

On the occasion, York Catholic District School Board Trustee Angela Saggese spoke about the “YCDSB ItaliaLinguaCultura” project, created to support the teaching of the Italian language in YCDSB schools. The students of Italian origin who attend these programs are over 5,000 in number  – in the YCDSB alone.

As noted by Corriere Canadese in recent weeks, the project will also be supported in fiscal terms by the Italian government thanks to the commitment of the Consul General of Toronto, Luca Zelioli and his staff at the Consulate in Toronto. Other community organizations have joined in, such as CIPBA, Roberto Sacco CEO, and Heritage Calabria supported by Luciano Schipano. Further contributions are expected from the various Italian communities.

Meanwhile, on this occasion, Angela Saggese – who detailed the project together with another of her trustee colleagues, Maria Iafrate – wanted to recognize the initiative of Minister Lecce in this regard and to thank him for the contribution that the provincial government had given to Catholic schools to safeguard the teaching of Italian.
