«My position has not changed and will always be on the side of the community»

Letter to il Corriere from The Honourable Laura Albanese – MPP, York South—Weston

Dear Mr. MacDonald,

Thank you to for your invitation to take part in the rally to save the Columbus Centre, scheduled for October 19. I am however quite surprised by your request for a public statement to share my views on this matter, given that I have already publicly and repeatedly stated my position.
With respect to the current plan, I believe that Villa Charities has not articulated a clear vision that addresses the concerns voiced by our community; and has yet to make a resolute and transparent commitment to preserve and promote the history and the contribution of the Italian Canadian community in Canada – exemplified by the Columbus Centre. My position has been made public through statements featured in the Corriere Canadese – a trusted news source for the Italian Canadian community. This is the same news outlet that also published pictures confirming my participation in the first demonstration held a few months ago in Toronto.
My position has not changed, and I will always be on the side of the community. Most importantly, I will always be available to hear about proposed solutions that go beyond the current standstill, help Villa Charities overcome its financial and structural challenges, and help the students of Dante Alighieri secure a better learning environment.
As for the event taking place next Thursday, I would have liked to attend as I have in the past. However, considering the short notice my office received, it is not possible for me to attend due to previous ministerial commitments.
Again, thank you for writing and sharing your concerns.

Regards,

The Honourable Laura Albanese
