Happy New Year to our readers and supporters

Happy New Year to our readers and supporters

The Honourable Joe Volpe, Publisher

TORONTO – We are, all of us, “like hamsters on a spinning wheel” – rushing to go nowhere.  Always busy, always tending to matters of great urgency. Always just a little too immersed in our own [little] world to notice that others are looking out for us as well.

We put off the simple task of saying “thank you” until another hour, another day, another week, another … And then it all comes to an end.

At the Corriere we would like to reverse that trend and today thank all our Sponsors, our Advertisers, our Subscribers, our Buyers, our services providers and all those who make it possible for us to bring you a daily window on life seen and interpreted through our eyes.

Most importantly, as the Publisher, I want to personally thank the editorial team, researchers, staff and writers and occasional contributors who dedicate themselves to producing an attractive, readable, informative and enjoyable product every day – Monday through Friday.

And, it should never be overlooked, I and we thank YOU the reader for your trust and loyalty. Without you, the Paper would have no raison d’etre.

We have even begun to seriously espoused the internet and social media as a complement to our paper product. It is a slow process, but, we can now also include an average of 105, 000 unique visitors to our online edition, approximately 24,000 impressions monthly on Facebook and about 16,000 on Twitter, so far.

We have “banked” stories about our community from all parts of the country; stories that excite the imagination and glory in the fruition of sacrifices made and vision explored. Thanks to those who value the retelling the history that shaped us – and that we individually and collectively shaped to make us what we are today – and bringing it to our attention.

Some of those people have passed on, before we could give them their due. I have attended several ceremonies in recent weeks where “thanks” has been more appropriately been replaced by the exhortation of “courage”. We need both as we head into the new year.

On that note, please accept on behalf of everyone at the Corriere Canadese best wishes for a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year. Auguri.
