Trudeau rassicura il settore della componentistica

TORONTO – Un incontro positivo, che è servito a rassicurare il settore della componentistica auto canadese circa un possibile indebolimento del Nafta. E a ridimensionare, almeno per ora, l’ipotesi di una revisione dell’accordo di libero scambio che vada a penalizzare questo comparto della nostra economia. È questo in sostanza il bilancio dell’incontro a Toronto tra il primo ministro Justin Trudeau e i rappresentanti di categoria. “Abbiamo percepito che il primo ministro ha una buona conoscenza dell’industria – dice al Corriere Flavio Volpe, presidente dell’Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA – e delle questioni che hanno un peso sulla competitività dal commercio alle domande del consumatore fino alla fluttuazione finanziaria”.
Nei mesi scorsi il settore, come altri comparti produttivi dell’economia canadese, aveva vissuto con una certa apprensione l’attacco a muso duro di Donald Trump al Nafta e all’ipotesi ventilata dall’inquilino della Casa Bianca di nuovi dazi doganali per le industrie americane che delocalizzano la produzione.
I timori, dal vertice dello scorso 13 febbraio tra Trudeau e Trump, si sono tuttavia ridimensionati. “Riguardo il presidente americano – continua – abbiamo rimarcato come dal nostro punto di vista sembra che abbiano avuto un ottimo primo incontro. Il primo ministro ha descritto una forte relazione interpersonale e formale che sono riusciti a costruire un breve tempo”. Nell’incontro ovviamente si è parlato del Nafta. “Ci hanno chiesto cosa pensavamo fosse importante nella prossima discussione sul Nafta e abbiamo discusso come funziona il Nafta per l’industria auto”.
“Abbiamo ricordato, infine, come il Canada, oltre che negli Usa, stia investendo pesantemente in Messico, dove operano 65 compagnie canadesi in circa 120 centri di componentistica auto, dando lavoro a 40mila persone”.
